As a general rule, your hair extension length should typically not exceed more than 4 inches past your natural hair length for the most seamless, natural-looking blend. The longer you want to go with your hair extensions (on short hair especially), the more volume you’ll have to add to ensure the transition from where your natural hair ends to where your extensions fill in the gap isn’t an abrupt and noticeable one.
Keep in mind that your height can also affect how different hair extension lengths will look on you. If you’re petite, you may want to opt for short hair extensions (between 12 to 18 inches in length). If you’re taller, longer sets (such as 20 to 24 inches) should work nicely.
